What's your question?

By: [ Editor ] Asked

Are any physically-based renderers suitable for vfx production ?

I know that many people are regularly using Maxwell, Fryrender and what not for architecture and product design and outputting animated sequences... renderfarm permitting.

Has anyone had success in using those renderers in a film vfx production environment? What type of work was it for ? Character/environment ? Composited or full CG ?

Cheers.

Hi,

I've never used Maxwell personally but these guys did some really amazing shorts using Maxwell and an online renderfarm: http://www.meindbender.com Some information about the renders and production is in this thread: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=154&t=831599

For me these renders are probably the biggest "rendering surprise" of the last year, I never would have thought that Maxwells usable for such stuff, and in their "Evolution" short they have some pretty non-architectural looks. Cool.

Cheers, Szabolcs
