Are Maya's GEO caching tools any good?

Hello peoples,

I have just modernized myself with regards to what Maya version I am using, have been using really old ones for a while.

These new geometry caching nodes and tools, are they any good for production use at all? Are they stable and nice or buggy as hell?

I'm asking because often new features I Maya can be somewhat of a gimmick.

And I saw Avatar on New Years Day. God Damn! Amazing work.

cheers fred

Maya's geo caching isn't particularly great. It's linearly interpolated and doesn't export transforms so any geometry caching needs to be done on skinned/deforming meshes. Interoperability between Maya and other packages (like houdini) are poor with the geocaching.

yo fred! yeah we used maya's own geometry caching thing instead of inhouse for something random that then needed to be shared externally, was quite surprised with the results, seemed to work as you'd expect .. big files tho! G
