How to drop clips into an edit via the web

I'm curious to know if there is some web based software that will allow me to set up an edit, and have it automatically drop in a new version of a shot to the correct place each time I submit, so I can then easily play the cut straight away and see the shot in context.

just stumbled across this, no idea if its any good or not:

http://www.moviemasher.com/

free and open source apparently, and looks like it has a halfway decent API. depending on how much free time you had (ha), could probably knock up an automated tool to update shots in an edit relatively easily.

Thanks Matt. I’m going to try this. It looks great! I’m trying to minimize the time between submitting a version of a shot and receiving feedback, and something like this will really help.

MaxEdit, from Maximum Throughput, does just that. It is an add-on to the Sledgehammer that allows to edit remotely clips that are stored on the Sledge, and to upload clips if need be, using a dedicated Java application.

Maximum Throughput has been purchased by Avid recently, and I don't know what is the future for these products, but what I saw was incredibly promising.

wow that sounds good – I will check it out. So long as people can upload from anywhere it will do the job I’m sure.

It’s expensive if you don’t have a Sledgehammer. If you already have one the add-on is much easier to justify.

Yeah we have a sledge. But looking at the Maximum Troughput website it looks like there are way too many features in MaxEdit. I think the ideal user scenario would be for a user, probably the client, to upload an EDL that represents the current cut of a sequence. Then every time an artist uploads a shot, it gets dropped in to the cut – and thats it. No editing operations are possible. They can of course play the cut or download it. But it needs to be that simple.

Sounds like you want what we put into the HubViewer at MPC :D

i really miss the brilliant jumpcut
It might have been just what you are after - in my opinion the first usable online video editor. It disappeared this time last year.
Sitting idle on a yahoo server somewhere right now!
Matts Pointer to Movie Masher looks good.

Yeah that sounds like it was pretty cool. I think there’s a market for an online editor with an API, so artists and clients can keep an edit updated and experiment.
