maya particle cache

How do you deal with maya particle caches ? Currently only option known to me, is to manually copy caches do scene's directory, which is neither efficient, nor workflow-friendly. As Disney has recently released their Partio lib, I'm again tempted to write cached emitter, similar to what realflow plugin does in maya (an emitter with path to a cache).

But maybe there are better options ?
