Photometric Lights in Maya

Hi All,

Can anyone tell me how to achieve photoreal volume lights using the ies data in maya. I am working on an underwater scene with a craft. Trying to achieve an effect of the way light scatters underwater. Its quite different than the normal volume lights. I could achieve that in Max as it supports ies files.

Any suggestions?

You can user the mib_light_photometric attached to a maya light (best to use area light) although a lot of the time the profile will make the light point perpendicular to the light icons direction. Also to get the volume by not using the volume light you want to add a parti_volume shader to a cube (which will contain the volume) and importantly you need to check on the box that says Auto Volume in the mentalray render globals under the features tab (near the bottom) in order that the camera will render the volume while inside it. Hope this help
