What's your question?

What are the most important and influential books a vfx artist should read?

I was just about to order the VES book and it got me thinking, (to save on shipping) maybe I should order some others.

What should be on the list?

Brinkmann's "Art and Science of Digital Compositing" is still to my knowledge the comp bible.

There are craft books and there are books for understanding how to achieve results technically. I believe that everyone should have an understanding or an inkling of what they are doing most of the time and the book below is a good primer.

Thanks for these! I read “Story” – great book! I’ll look into some of the others.
